London Calling with Bari J.'s Bloomsbury

Bloomsbury1111

For our latest collection, we're transporting back in time to the early 1900s in London, England. In the west end of the city, lies a district called "Bloomsbury" that was (and still is) a fashionable residential area where various intellectual and cultural events took place. During the turn of the century, a group of artists and writers gathered in this district and called themselves "The Bloomsbury Group." English writer Virginia Woolf was one of the most notable members of this group. The other members included Leonard Woolf, Vanessa Bell, E.M. Forster, Lytton Strachey, Roger Fry, Clive Bell, John Maynard Keynes, Duncan Grant and Desmond McCarthy. They were famous for being one of the first literary groups that supported women in the arts as well as many other social issues.

Our designer Bari J. has a great affinity for this unique time in history as well as the city of London, so she decided that with her latest collection "BLOOMSBURY" to draw her inspiration from this exact time and place! Imagining a world that would surround luminaries like Virginia Woolf, Bari brings to life an English garden that would be nestled within the Bloomsbury district that's filled with gorgeous, painterly blooms, songbirds, and lush foliage.

Mystical Land Fabrics - How to make a "Columbian Star" Quilt Block Tutorial

How-to-Sew-a-Columbian-Star-Block--Tutorial

Are you a fabric connoisseur? When did you find out you were hooked and fabric collecting was almost as important as having another project lined up to make before you finished the one you are currently working on?

I don’t recall the day I officially turned into a fabric addict, but since starting my journey working for Art Gallery Fabrics five years ago I never could have believed how quilting and sewing would have become such a major part of my life and overall happiness! Can any of you relate? I couldn’t picture my life without sewing and fabric in it!

Every new fabric collection that comes out at AGF I am like a kid at Christmas! When the first shipment makes it’s way to the AGF headquarters I am the first one jumping up and down ready to run my hands through all the prints!

Mystical Land by Maureen Cracknell was no different! I am totally a big fan of Maureen’s creations! Not only is she a major sweetheart and a lovely person but she is such a talented artist. Her hand-drawn sketches that get turned into her beautiful fabric collections are just out of this world phenomenal.

Today I am excited to share my new video tutorial where I sew up the “Columbian Star” block! There are so many different types of star blocks in quilting but I honestly can’t get enough of them! They are just so gorgeous and what better way to show off Maureen’s new fabric collection.

There is quite a bit of piecing and trimming in this block but the outcome is so lovely! Watch the video below to follow along!

SUMMER IS CALLING- How to Sew a "Gentle Breeze" Quilt Block Tutorial

Hello Friends,

What are your favorite things about Summer? Having BBQ’s with family and friends, chilling poolside reading a good book, or the longer days of sunshine? Whatever it may be Dana Willard has recreated the Summer season into a great modern fabric collection perfect for all apparel markers, quilt makers and crafty DIYers!  Today I want to share with you the “Gentle Breeze” Block I sewed up using some of my faves from Dana’s collection.

How-to-Sew-a-Gentle-Breeze-Block--Tutorial

My new favorite way to make HST’s is the four at a time method. All you need is two squares of fabric, place them right sides together and sew around the entire square at ¼, pivoting at each corner! Then cut your piece on both diagonals and viola!

Make sure to watch my block video below to make the new addition to the AGF Quilt Block Collection. If you are following along with me make sure to post your blocks on social media with the hashtag #AGFSummerSide! I wanna see all your pretty blocks!

If you want to get a look at all the prints up close and personal make sure to watch my first official Fabric Haul Video where I dive in deep and talk about all the prints and show you great Pure Solids to mix and match back with the collection.

Until Next Time,

Meli

Dana Willard's "Summer Side" Collection

Hi Makers!

With our latest collection and lookbook, all of us here at AGF have been using "summertime" as our main source of inspiration these days. When it comes to this season, I definitely think about hanging out at the beach and celebrating my birthday on the Fourth of July with tons of fireworks, but more than anything, I think about a certain kind of fruit that arrives only during summer. Living in Florida, one of the best things that happens during this time is mango season! You'll find hundreds of mango trees here with tons of ripe fruit, ready to be picked and eaten. Growing up, my backyard had several mango trees, and I used to help my parents pick the ripe ones from the trees, which we used in smoothies, popsicles, cakes or would just enjoy eating by themselves!

Our designer Dana Willard always comes up with a bright, cheery collection usually relating to summer. Gathering up inspiration from all the things that she absolutely loves about the season...from bold florals, refreshing popsicles and fruit to sunglasses and swimsuits with a retro twist..you'll find all these cute prints in the latest collection, SUMMER SIDE!
