Color Master of The Month: Vibrant Violet

Vibrant Violet color mood board

Welcome back, Color Master fans! Did you know that the color “violet” represents the future, enhances our imagination and dreams, while keeping us grounded? It got me thinking about how fast the year is going by and that 2019 is right around the corner! Here in Florida, it will start getting cooler with the cold fronts..well “cooler” for us meaning 70 degrees..and we can really appreciate being outdoors. Now, just thinking about it, has me really excited for upcoming holidays, and the color “violet” brings me right to New Years Eve where everyone gathers under the stars to dance all night until the fireworks go off. What better way to bring up that nostalgia with the “Color Master” in “Vibrant Violent” edition, a mood board that represents all future holiday festivities! From the vivid purple hues, ditsy florals, and bursts of bright color.

It’s time to put the “pedal to the metal” and warm up those sewing machines! With this unique tones of violet, take your fabric projects to the next level! All you need is one bundle to make a project that's perfect for the month, and you can get it in two sizes: Fat Quarters or Half yards.

Here are some projects from the lookbooks that you can make with our “Color Master” fabrics!

Sewing inspo

Impressions Block #1: Make an impression using a quilt block filled with circling, flying geese! Featuring the print “Impressions Spices” contrasting the bright yellow triangles or change it up with more subtle violets from the bundle.

Quilt #2:Using the entire "Color Master" to create this gorgeous, violet quilt! An explosion of color using our signature quality cottons, combined with an original a unique project. Each box includes 10 prints for quick projects to sew or quilt. This quilt shown was made with a Fat Quarter and you can download this pattern here.

Peafowl Table Runner #3: The perfect holiday project, gather your friends and family at the dining table with round table topper featuring the print  “Rumpled Phlox!”

This “Color Master” bundle can give you the option of using just one print or several to compliment any of your sewings designs. Although this bundle highlights the color violet, each print has distinct color palettes that make it easy to pair with other projects. For example, the print called What Awaits Profoundly” (Print shown below, circled in blue) has yellow, light blue, and some fuchsia flowers that can help piece together other fabrics with a matching color palette.

Dramatic Opulence: "Virtuosa" Fabric Collection

Hi Makers,

Do any of you LOVE going to see plays or performances?!

It's such a fun event! Getting all dressed up in a nice outfit, entering the theater and taking a seat, waiting for those red curtains to lift up and for the show to begin! From the introduction of the characters to hearing their stories be told through action or songs, the lightning, the set design, the costumes, and overall mood is just incredible, especially from a production point of view! Theater reminds us to be in the present and to be fully immersed in what's happening at that very moment. The acting, the singing, the music being played by a live orchestra..it all comes together and creates an beautiful experience that cannot be replicated.

Oscar Wilde once said "I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being."

I think he was right! :)

Inspired by the days of performing in theater, our designer Bari J. shines the spotlight on romantic and bold prints that take center stage in her latest fabric collection, "Virtuosa." With a distinct color palette filled with jewel-tones, there’s no doubt that these fabrics fuse together harmony, opulence, and of course...drama! This collection is so great for anyone who loves painterly florals that can make gorgeous quilts, garments, throw pillows, and accessories.

Designing with Florals - How to Make a "Friendship Star" Quilt Block Tutorial

Hi Makers!

The weather may be getting colder and nature may be going into hibernation mode but that doesn't mean we can't get our daily dose of color else where. Florals and  jewel tones are scattered throughout Bari J's new fabric collection for AGF! Her gorgeous new collection called Virtuosa is bold, dramatic and so lush looking. I paired a few of my favorite florals in the collection with two amazing solid Pure Elements, Cabernet and Light Citron! These colors are so pretty and vibrant and married well with the beautiful florals and blenders I chose!

Looking to brighten up your home during the grey days to come!? Give the "Friendship Star" Block a try! Follow along with me and watch the step by step video below!

Make sure to use the hashtag #AGFQuiltBlockCollection to share your blocks on social media! Can't wait to see your gorgeous blocks! What are some things you do during the cold/grey days of Fall and Winter to boost and brighten up each day?

Living in Florida there isn't to many cold days but we do have hurricane season which leaves us with grey, rainy days. On those days I like to stay inside, blast music I can dance to and sew with bright happy fabrics.

Cozy Fabrics- How to Make a Nine Patch Frame Block Tutorial

Hello Makers,

What have you been sewing up lately? I have been sewing with the sweetest new collection from AGF Studio called Little Clementine! This collection is so adorable with all of Little Clementine's fury friends and cute cozy keepsakes. One of my favorite prints from the collection is called "Mr. Penny Bubblegum", a cycling, scarf wearing bear! I incorporated him in the center of my  Nine Patch Frame Block pictured below! All I keep thinking is how cute  this block would be turned into a baby quilt?  In this block we used the corner triangle method quite a few times to create the units in this block. I love how easy and fun this block was to put together! If you looking for a beginner friendly block, I suggest to give this block a go by watching my Youtube video below!

What is your favorite print from Little Clementine Fabrics? Let me know your fave in the comments below and what you would make with these darling fabrics.

Quilty Beret Tutorial

Hello my creative friends!

Have you ever had quilted left-over pieces that are not big enough for a pillow, but not small enough to throw away? Well, take all those pieces out because today we'll be using them to make a beret. I got the idea because I love the delicate designs and cozy tones of the "Little Clementine" collection, and also my little Carlota loves to dress up and wear all kinds of accessories, so I figured this would be the perfect match.

Beret

To start, you need two quilted pieces that are big enough to cut a circle with a diameter of 11". In this case, I only had the top piece ready, so I improvised the second one for the bottom part.

Once both pieces are ready, make a template or draw with fabric pen a 11" circle on each one and cut.

Then, take only the circle for the bottom piece and draw an off centered  5 1/2" circle to mark and cut the opening of the beret.

Beret05

Place the top and bottom pieces face to face and join them by the outer edge. Use binding the clean the raw edges. If you prefer you can also clean the opening of the beret by folding the raw edge twice towards the inside and edge-stitching it.

Finally, wrap it and gift it to your favorite princess!

Beret01

Just so you know, I wore it too and it looks great, there is no need to make it bigger for an adult.

Beret04

And yes, our puppy Kobi also wanted to be in the picture, so he got a beautiful Little Clementine scarf but I'm not sure how happy Carlota is with the fact that he is stealing her spotlight , haha!

Happy beret making,

-Laucara
