Color Master Box of the Month! Life is Pink

Life is pink color mood board

Did you know the color pink was painted in holding cells to effectively reduce erratic behavior? It’s crazy how different colors can affect someone’s mood! When I was younger I did not enjoy wearing bright colors, especially the color “PINK!” Pink was always a color I associated with being “feminine”, and me being the tomboy-- I wanted nothing to do with it! But as I grew up, I realized pink is more than some girly color, it represents compassion and happiness. It worked for those in prison, so I guess I can use some of that in my life, right?

We are now entering the second month of summer here in Florida. It’s the time to take advantage of the sunshine and bring out all the bright fabrics! So for this month, I thought it would be appropriate to choose this alluring “Color Master Box” in the Life is Pink Edition. In the picture above, I created another mood board to bring all these prints to life for the summer season. From the bold assortment of florals,  lustrous pink threads, and to the emerging moon on the romantic horizon!

Let’s get these sewing machines warmed up for the season. With this unique tones of pink, take your fabric projects to the next level! All you need is one box to make a project that's perfect for the month, and you can get it in two sizes: Fat Quarters or Half yards.

Here are some projects from the lookbooks that you can make with the “Color Master Box”!

Sewing inspo

Shelby Satchel #1: The everyday bag with a pop of color! Using the print “Add Strawberry” to step this satchel a notch. Download the pattern here from Imprint Collection.

Quilt #2: Using the entire "Color Master Box" to create this pink inspired quilt! An explosion of color using our signature quality cottons, combined with an original a unique project. Each box includes 10 prints for quick projects to sew or quilt. This quilt shown was made with a Fat Quarter and you can download this pattern here.

Jesse Clutch #3: Using “Paradise Sweet” print to make this a feminine fold-over clutch for a romantic evening. Download the pattern here from Joie de Vivre collection.

This “Color Master Box” can give you the option of using just one print or several to compliment any of your sewings designs. Although this bundle highlights the color pink, each print has distinct color palettes that make it easy to pair with other projects. For example, the print called Quite Lovely Sugar” (Print shown below, circled in blue) has white, bright yellows, and a dark pink that can help piece together other fabrics with a matching color palette.

The possibilities doesn’t end here because we’ve written many blogs in the past with pink fabrics and you can find them in the color fun series! Remember that this box is there for your convenience, it has many uses! The “Color Master Box” can keep your fabrics organized and neatly displayed for easy finding, or you can share the love, because it’s perfectly curated in a box for an easy present!

Are you a fabric lover? Have a fabric lover in your life? Find them the perfect gift in our online stores.

Underwater Queendom: "Sirena" Fabric Collection

If you grew up in the 1980's, it was inevitable that as a little girl you would end up becoming obsessed with the Disney movie, The Little Mermaid.  I remember when this cartoon movie came out, all the other little girls at school also loved the main character,  Ariel who was a gorgeous, red-headed mermaid. We would all have "singing contest" at school and would compete to see who had the "best mermaid voice." On the weekends when my family and I would head to the beach, I would dive into the Atlantic Ocean and splash around, pretending my two legs were together as a mermaid tail, and I would jump out of the water and do a wet, hair flip just like The Little Mermaid. Looking back now, I realized I haven't changed much at all and still do these things when I'm "under the sea!"

Sharing a similar love and appreciation for mermaids and marine life, our designer Jessica Swift brought to life her latest fabric collection, Sirena.  Inspired by another amazing mermaid movie, "Splash" this collection takes you under the sea to an queendom of gorgeous mermaids that befriend whalesoctopuses, and admire tropical plant life. The vibrant colors are great for summery sewing projects from quilts, tote bags, throw pillows for outdoor furniture to fun, sun dresses!

Braids and Quilting!

Hello my quilting friends!

Did you know that hair braiding has a special meaning? Weaving the three strands of hair represents the strengthening of the mind, body, and spirit! I was so inspired by this thought and so in love with the joyous Sparkler Fusion collection that I figured they would be the perfect match to make quilting braids using hexies ... a great way to create beautiful projects with a heartwarming meaning.

Pinterest-template2

I started by choosing three different fabrics; Crystal Pink for fabric A, Chads Sparkler for fabric B, and Doiland Gloss Sparkler for fabric C to cut 2” hexies. You can choose any size of hexies, just make sure all of them are the same size.

Post-Boards

Then I cut each hexie in half from corner to corner.

Post-Boards01

Finally the braiding began…this is the step where I had to pay the most attention to because the joining sides didn’t measure the same. I lined up the short side from fabric A with the long side from fabric B, I sewed them and then I pressed the seam. (Diagram 3)

After this point the following steps were very easy … I just lined up the long side from fabric C with the side of the braid where fabric A and B are joined, then I sewed the seam and pressed again. (Diagram 4)

 Post-Boards02

I kept on joining half hexies following the same order A – B – C – A – B – C … until my braid got a little longer than what I wanted. And to finish it, I just trimmed the top and bottom edges to square it.

So after talking about the meaning and the technique, who in your life would you make a braided quilt for?

Happy braiding,

- Laucara

DIY Fabric Accessories

Hello, makers!

When I was growing up, I was never the one to dress up or put any jewelry. My mom always hated that I was a tomboy, haha! She would always make me feel bad for not dressing like a “lady”, especially if I walked out of the house without earrings! I guess now, that all grew on me because today I am the complete opposite. I feel weird not wearing any accessories and as you may all know from previous blog posts, I love to paint my nails too! Being such a girly-girl now, I really enjoy putting together an outfit and adding a handmade accessory.

If you’re an Art Gallery Fabrics fan, you know our lookbooks are filled with wonderful patterns and inspiration for accessories. Since statement earrings and necklaces are high on the trend radar right now for Summer and Fall 2018, I decided to share some pieces that speak to that style, so that you’re up to date with the latest ways to accessorize. All of these fabric accessories also include a tutorial!

1. Buttercup Necklace: If you have a love for EPP projects and accessories, this one goes out to you! Made with Love To Pieces fabrics, make a bold statement with this necklace and complete the look with a tutorial on garment in the lookbook.

2. Love Rosie Earrings: Wild Bloom fabrics is known for its bright fuchsias and oranges, but there is nothing better to pair up this fabric collection with flashy earrings.

3. Blossom Spice Earrings:  Besides my love for tassels, long earrings are making a combat in the fashion world. Made with Spices Fusion fabrics, the colors are perfect for any pair of fall colors including some saturated plums and oranges.

4. Dashing Earrings: These earrings are the equivalent of wearing a bold lip color. It’s just as easy to put on but it will completely transform your outfit. Make your look effortless with Aligned fabrics, containing modern colors with basic blacks and whites.
