Hellooo, fabulous makers!

Do you know what I love about spring? I love the fact that you wear bright colors without feeling obnoxious. You can justify your love for vibrant hues by saying you match the spring flowers, or because they make you happy. Regardless of what your reason to use bright colors is, I say embrace it! This is why for April’s color of the month we chose vibrant Fuchsia. This color is bold, happy, is a great accent to any project, and looks good on anyone!

To give you a little inspiration of things you can make with Fuchsia, I’ve chosen some of my favorite  projects that you can make.

Let’s check them out!

1. Quilted Heart Pillow

To all the beginner sewists out there, one of the easiest projects you can start with is a small pillow. This heart shaped pillow made with the heart print (“Give Love”) from Letters fabrics is a great place to start. You can even quilt it for an extra touch of details!

2. Play the Moments Quilt

For those of you who rather use this color as an accent, this quilt is perfect! The Play the Moments quilt made with Heart Melodies fabrics combines subtle pinks and neutrals with pops of fuchsia fabric for a unique touch without being overwhelming.

3. “Let’s Chalk Joyful” Trousers

If you like to be bold with your wardrobe, these bright trousers are a fun fashion accessory to have this season. The tapered look combined with the subtle hand drawn roses fabric print will have you making a statement anywhere you go.  

4. Jaimesyn Dress

This cutie was shared with us by Eleri from Sew and Tell Project. We love how she combined prints with fuchsia from Fiesta Fun fabrics by Dana Willard to make this cute dress. I bet any little girl in your family will look adorable with this dress.

5. Flounce Top

Every girl needs that one tank that looks great for day and night outfits! After flipping through countless AGF look books, I think I found the one! This fuchsia flounce top made with this star burst print from Utopia Fabrics will look great with a light weight cardigan or a denim jacket.

6. DARE Pouch

Last but not least, a girl always has to keep her make-up or sewing notions stored in a cute pouch! The best thing about this is that you’ll never lose this bag because of the bright print from DARE fabrics by Pat Bravo.

Hello my fellow makers!

I hope you all are doing great! Lately, I've been focusing on talking more about the substrates we carry and the things you can do with them. If you have been following along I already talked about Canvas fabrics and some projects you can make with this substrate. Also, my friend Aleksandra shared a video of Mister Domestic in which he will give you some tips when sewing with canvas. Today, I will talk all about Voile fabric, give you some tips when sewing with this substrate and I will give you the links to some of my favorite patterns! 

So let's get started!

AGF Voile fabric characteristics:

• Voile is a lightweight, semi-sheer, woven fabric that is 100% cotton. Voile tends to have a higher thread count and a tighter weave than most cotton fabrics, making it very soft and silky to the touch. This substrate is known for its light drape. Not only is it lightweight but breathable which makes it great for summer dresses, skirts, tops and more! 
• Voile sometimes needs to be lined to make it wearable because it might get too transparent.
• It doesn't stretch like other cotton fabrics and creases iron very nice.
• It's recommended to sew with a size 9 needle if possible or the universal standard needle due to its tighter weave.
• Cotton embroidery thread is perfect to use with this fine fabric.
• French seams are always used for this type of fabric. Also, A serged finish is possible as well. Hems can be top stitched by machine or hand-rolled.

AGF Voile Care:

• Wash warm, normal cycle.
• Tumble dry low.
• Use only non-chlorine bleach
• Use warm iron.
• A common question: "Should I pre-wash the fabric?" Pre-washing is up to you. Our fabrics shrinkage is minimal (about 3%).

My favorite thing about Voile is its versatility. You can make things like chic scarves and free-flowing dresses.. Sweet camisoles and feather weight quilts. Well, with Voile possibilities are endless! I definitely encourage you to use voile fabric in your products! I am sure you will love it as much as I do.

Hello wonderful makers!

Lately, I’ve been thinking about the beautiful landscapes that span across the US. To me it’s amazing how you can see deserts, plains, forests, and beaches in one country. Since I was born and raised in South Florida, it’s always fascinating to experience the unique landscapes that are outside of tropical Florida. One place that has been memorable to me has been the Midwest. The first time I was able to see the beauty of the vast mid-west countryside was during my plane trip to Minnesota for my first Quilt Market. From a bird’s eye view I could see little houses surrounded beautiful green land…

When I saw that our fabric designer Sharon Holland was releasing her new collection Bountiful, memories of the vast landscapes filled my mind. Bountiful is all about Sharon’s interpretation of the beauty of Midwest America. She uses earthy colors and various art techniques to create fresh prints that will remind you of a breezy walk through a prairie.

What I love about this collection is that the subtle color palette is great for home décor and garments. I’m currently obsessed with the stylish Haymow Stack print!

It’s been a busy week here at the AGF HQ! We’ve been diligently preparing for our next lookbook release. Can you guess what it is? If you thought of Bountiful by Sharon Holland you’re right! This collection has been so much fun to work with because Sharon has made us take a trip to the Midwest with the earthy prints in this collection.

With every collection that our designers make, it’s always interesting to hear the stories that drive them to create their artistic bodies of work. We recently had the opportunity to meet with Sharon to talk about the inspiration behind her new fabric collection, Bountiful and we are blown away.
