Bring the Joy with Here Comes the Fun: A Modern Quilt Challenge

Hi there, Quilters and Makers!

With spring around the corner, it’s time to make bright and colorful quilts for the upcoming season! This is why we’ve prepared a challenge for you to rev up your sewing machines. We’re happy to kick start the “Bring the Joy with Here Comes the Fun” modern quilt challenge! Since Sew Caroline’s newest collection, Here Comes the Fun is all about happy lyrics and the beautiful art that fills many cities combined with fun designs, we thought it would be great for making bright modern quilts. Plus, the colors of this collection are great for spring!

We were inspired to make this challenge because in just a few days we’ll be attending Quiltcon in Savannah, GA. This is the largest modern quilt show of its kind and it’s filled with all kinds of quilting inspiration and competitions. For our booth theme we’ve decided to dedicate it to the Arts District located in Miami (Wynwood) and we’re calling it the “Quilt District.” We thought it would be fun to host our own modern quilt competition for those of you who aren’t able to attend the show. Since, “Here Comes the Fun” is all about the beauty of street art, you’ll be able to bring a bit of the Quilt District to your home with this challenge.

Are you up for this challenge? Here’s the scoop on how to enter:

If you would like to participate in this challenge, you will need to make a 40” x 60” modern quilt (or larger) that is made mostly with Here Comes the Fun Fabrics by Sew Caroline. You may mix and match blenders/ solids into your quilt as long as they are from AGF (the whole quilt must be made with AGF to be considered). And yes, you are allowed to use a pre-made quilt pattern. When coming up with your design, think color blocking, negative space, geometric designs, etc. If you are stuck we have prepared a Pinterest board for you to get some inspiration. You have full creative freedom and “modern” is open to interpretation, so let your creativity guide you!

Submissions:

You can submit a hi-res image of your quilt to [email protected] with your name, the name of your quilt, and a description of your design. The images will be shared on a Pinterest board titled, “Here Comes the Fun Quilt Challenge” and people will be able to vote for their favorite quilts by pinning them. Submissions will be opened until May 31st.

Voting:

Voting on Pinterest will be open from June 1st to June 12th. The quilts with the most votes/pins will be the winners. We will announce three winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) on the blog and we will contact them personally by email.

Make sure to take bright, sharp, pretty pictures of your projects so that they can be showed off in the best way possible!

See you at Quiltcon East!

Hey there makers!

We have a special announcement to make! In the next few weeks we’ll be attending Quiltcon East in Savannah, GA! Yay! For those of you who aren’t familiar with Quiltcon, it’s the largest modern quilting show of it’s kind that’s presented by the Modern Quilt Guild. This convention is open to the public and it’s a great place to network with like-minded makers. It features HUNDREDS of modern quilts, tons of lectures and workshops lead by your favorite bloggers and designers, and there’s lots of vendors for you to indulge in all kinds of quilty things!

Quiltcon graphic

We’re extremely excited to attend this convention for the first time! Throughout the four day event (February 23rd-26th) we’ll be hosting tons of activities and giveaways for attendees. If you’ll be at the show, make sure to pass by Booth 1050 and see our concept: The Quilt District.

The quilt district graphicSince we’re coming from sunny South Florida, The Quilt District was inspired by the burgeoning art scene of our city. Miami is known for its Art Deco District, the popular Miami Art Week in December (Art Basel), and the Wynwood neighborhood with its iconic & ever-changing murals. We wanted to bring a little piece of home with us while expressing our love for quilting, hence the Quilt District was born! Plus, in our world there would be a quilt district everywhere. ;)

While taking a stroll through our booth, you’ll also be able to meet some of the AGF designers and chat with our AGF Sewcialite Mister Domestic. For those of you who are members of the Modern Quilt Guild, you can even register for two demos hosted by Mister Domestic!

Check out what he’ll be teaching:

  • Improv Flower Block | Thursday, February 23rd at 12:30pm

Learn Mathew’s scrappy improvisational patchwork technique to create a flower block.

  • Tumbling Blocks Weave | Friday, February 24th at 10:15am

Checkout Mathew's signature weaving technique to create a tumbling blocks pattern using fabric strips.

Register here

If you’re not able to attend, don’t worry we’ve got you covered! We’ll be live from Quiltcon on Facebook and Instagram! And yes... Mister Domestic will be the host with the most, during this fun event. You won’t want to miss his antics!

We hope you’re as excited as we are to be part of Quiltcon! See you in Savannah, GA!

Til next time,

Stephanie
