Sewing 101: The dress pattern

Hey there makers!!

I hope you guys are doing well! Last week I told you all about my ideas of wanting to learn how to sew, and how Amantha (my amazing teacher) guided me to find the perfect garment to sew. Today, I'm very happy to tell you more about my sewing adventure.

Amantha, has been teaching me how to sew straight lines and spiral lines before I start working on my beautiful outfit. This has been quite an experience for me but, I truly like it! After learning how to make these stitched lines with the sewing machine, we also practiced how to back stitch and sew darts. It was difficult in the beginning, but it was a great idea because I know it will help me to avoid mistakes when I'm sewing the final product!

Well, now let's start with the pattern. We made it from scratch! Amantha, was very patient and she explained to me all the steps on how to draft the pattern. I'm not going to lie, this was like a geometry class! Amantha taught me that you need to be really precise with the measurements when tracing the pattern, because if you are not careful the clothes could turn out looking weird or even worst, it could not fit you!

Muslin

Then, after completing the pattern, I cut it in muslin fabric to make a mock up of the crop-top. Luckily, everything fit perfectly! So, I proceeded to cut the actual fabric that I'm going to use to make the top-skirt set.

After all that planning, I was finally able to start on my favorite part: putting the outfit together. Now, I finally understand why people say that sewing makes them relaxed! As soon as I sat at the machine, I started daydreaming about all the cute projects I would like to make.

I love the feeling of seeing my ideas come to life and I'm even thinking about getting my own sewing machine. Perhaps, I'll start to sew on the weekends! I'm very happy of how everything is turning out and I can't wait to show you the final product!

Stay tuned too see how this sewing adventure ends!

Best,

Caro
