So the end of summer is beginning. I love all seasons, but I have not experienced living through a freezing winter, so I could understand why a lot of people really cherish the warmer weather. One of the good things about warm (let's say no-snow) weather is that one can do many things outdoors.

Bicycling is one of my favourites, and when we released the Cleta collection, we showed you this Bike Lane quilt on the LookBook. I know some time has passed BUT this quilt is still perfect to take to the park and of course it will translate incredibly into the colder seasons.

Step 1:

For the construction of the bicycle top use the following pieces:

Fabric I: (1) 6 ½” x 2 ½”

Fabric H: (2) 4 ½” x 2 ½”, (1) 14 ½” x 2 ½”, (3) 2 ½” x 2 ½”

Fabric F: (1) 8 ½” x 8 ½”, (1) 10 ½” x 8 ½”, (2) 6 ½” x 2 ½”, (1) 8 ½” x 2 ½”, 10 ½” x 2 ½”

Follow the diagram below for fabric placement

Step 2:

Take the following pieces the construction of the bicycle bottom:

Fabric G: (8) 6 ½” x 2 ½”, (2) 4 ½” x 2 ½”, (6) 2 ½” x 2 ½”

Fabric J: (2) 4 ½” x 2 ½”

Fabric H: (3) 2 ½” x 2 ½”

Fabric F: (10) 4 ½” x 2 ½”, (5) 6 ½” x 4 ½”, (6) 2 ½” x 2 ½”, (2) 6 ½” x 2 ½”, (1) 8 ½” x 2 ½”, 10 ½” x 2 ½”, (1) 10 ½” x 2 ½”, (1) 14 ½” x 2 ½”.

Attach the pieces together following the diagram below for pieces arrangement

Step 3:

Attach the top bicycle piece crosswise to the bottom piece.

Take the 34 ½” x 2 ½” strip from fabric F and attach it to the top edge, then attach the 34 ½” x 8 ½” strip from fabric F to the bottom edge.

Now that you’re done with the top and bottom strip attachment take the two 32 ½” x 2 ½” remaining strips from fabric F and attach them to left and right edges.

BICYCLE (B) CONSTRUCTION

D) (8) 6 ½” x 2 ½”, (2) 4 ½” x 2 ½”, (6) 2 ½” x 2 ½”

Step 2:

Take the following pieces the construction of the bicycle bottom:

Fabric D: (8) 6 ½” x 2 ½”, (2) 4 ½” x 2 ½”, (6) 2 ½” x 2 ½”

Fabric A: (2) 4 ½” x 2 ½”

Fabric C: (3) 2 ½” x 2 ½”

Fabric E: (10) 4 ½” x 2 ½”, (5) 6 ½” x 4 ½”, (6) 2 ½” x 2 ½”, (2) 6 ½” x 2 ½”, (1) 8 ½” x 2 ½”, 10 ½” x 2 ½”, (1) 10 ½” x 2 ½”, (1) 14 ½” x 2 ½”.

Attach the pieces together following the diagram below for pieces arrangement

Step 3:

Attach the top bicycle piece crosswise to the bottom piece.

Take the 34 ½” x 2 ½” strip from fabric E and attach it to the top edge, then attach the 34 ½” x 8 ½” strip from fabric E to the bottom edge.

Now that you’re done with the top and bottom strip attachment take the two 32 ½” x 2 ½” remaining strips from fabric E and attach them to left and right edges.

Now that bicycle A & B are done they are ready to be sew them together. Attach Bicycle B on top of bicycle A.

Take all the remaining strips and set them in groups by fabric. Attach each set of strips together to get 77” long strips from each of the fabrics.

You should end up having (2) 1 ½” X 77” strips from fabric B C & D,(1) 2 ½” x 77” strip from fabric F,     (4)1 ½” x 77” and (4) 5 ½” x 77” from fabric K.

Take all the 1 ½” x 77” strips and make two sets of strips attaching them in the following order: DKBKCK

Now take all the remaining strips and stitch them together in the following order: K-set-KFK-set-K

For the final step attach the strips block to the left edge of the bicycles block and you are done with the quilt top 

Quilt and bind as you wish (we used the Ash fabric for our binding, and did an echo quilting motif around each bike).

I really enjoy all of April’s collections they are fun, abstract and their names suits them perfectly! #BOUNDfabrics come from April’s thoughts and feelings of home and she found inspiration on the things she loves the most: woven wall hangings, cozy blankets, vintage macrame, and paintings.

Happy Friday everyone!

I hope everybody enjoyed their week and have big plans for the weekend ahead. Did you know we are having a Cultivate Challenge "Cultivate in Fall" (with AWESOME prizes!!!) and at the same time Bonnie is hosting a Cultivate blog tour... So, we thought it would be a good idea to do small recap to feed your inspiration buds and get you going for our Cultivate challenge. 

First in this recap is our very own Caroline Hulse, AKA Sew Caroline, with these adorable baby bloomers, how cute are they? (I wish I could wear them!) Click here for the FREE pattern pieces + instructions on these cuties. (size 0-24 months) 

Bonnie also joined the tour and decided to make these onesies for her little baby girl! (can't wait to finally meet her, can you guess her name? I bet it will be something unique like her big brother BEAR!)

Maxie from maxiemakes, also joined in the fun! (did you know, she's bonnie's mom?) She made a "Scout Tee" and a "Tiny Pocket Tank" both in KNITS. Check out her blog for more info on the patterns.

And Caitlin from SaltyOat decided to make this geometric tea towel, how beautiful beautiful is that quilting!?
