The Getaway Pillow // Tutorial

Hello! As some of you know the AGF team is packed and ready for Pittsburgh International Quilt Market. We will be out of the office for a few days, but before we leave we want to share this tutorial with you. The Getaway Pillow is made with Drift by Angela Walters and we first showed it to you on the Drift Lookbook.

Now I want to show you how you can make it. Here is what you will need:

  1. Eight (8) 5 7/8” squares of  Gemmed Pathways Terra (Drift by Angela Walters)
  2. Eight (8) 5 7/8” squares of Sea Foam Green (Drift by Angela Walters)
  3. One (1) 22" square for the backing

Pair the 5 7/8" squares taking one from each fabric. Place one on top of the other face-to-face and using an erasable fabric market trace a diagonal line on the top square. Sew ¼” away from the line on both sides of it. Cut through the line previously traced. You should have two separate pieced squares. Press seams open and repeat the same steps with all the remaining pairs of squares.

Arrange the squares following the diagram. Sew the rows first, and then attach them together.

Cut a square that is the same size as your pillow top (it should be about 20").

Align both squares face-to-face and sew them all around leaving an opening of at least 4” at the bottom of the pillow to turn the pillow right side out.

Once you stuff the pillow, the last step is to close the opening with an invisible stitch done by hand.

I hope you enjoy this simple tutorial and that it helps you create a getaway space within your home.

Rock 'n Sew,
